Right, where were we?

(new editor, new postcode, same me)

Hello you. It’s been a minute! Longer than I’d like to admit, and if you’d assumed Behind The Lens had died in a drawer somewhere, fair enough. But it didn’t. I just went quiet. Here’s the honest version of why.

🫠 The bit I haven’t said out loud
Late last year I lost both my assistant and my editor within weeks of each other. I won’t pretend that was a small thing, it properly knocked the wind out of me. Suddenly I was doing three jobs badly instead of one job well, and this newsletter was the first thing to slide off the desk. So if you’ve been here the whole time getting nothing back from me: thank you, and sorry.

✂️ The good news has a name
The new editor is in, and honestly, I’m thrilled. The recent uploads have a polish I couldn’t have reached on my own, and more to the point, they’ve handed me some of my evenings back. Which is precisely why you’re reading this. Turns out when you’re not editing until 3 or 4am, there’s time for the stuff that actually matters. If you want to see the difference for yourself, the last few videos are the proof, go have a watch and tell me in the comments whether you can spot where I stopped doing my own editing. I still edit some videos though, while we get in a rhythm. The goal is to have the editor do all of it eventually.

📦 A move on the horizon
On the personal front: we’re looking at relocating. My son landed an opportunity at a new school that’s genuinely too good to turn down, so the family’s on the move. The studio’s staying put, mind. It only adds a bit to my commute, and frankly that’s worth it to keep one thing in my life that isn’t currently in cardboard boxes.
